Etling Glass from the Glass EncyclopediaLa Societe Anonyme Edmond Etling was founded after the First World War in Paris, France. He had a shop in Paris and commissioned art works in bronze, ceramics, and glass mostly from French artists. The glass pieces were usually made for Etling at the Choisy-le-Roi glassworks close to Paris. The company did not survive the second world war, so their entire production was made during the great haydays of Art Deco.Several artists designed vases and figurines for Etling, and their work, we understand, was always marked "Etling France" and usually followed by a number which related to the Choisy-le-Roi catalogue. The figurines were always in opalescent glass, as were many of the other pieces they made. Clear frosted glass with a grey look was also produced for Etling. Amongst the most famous designers of glass for Etling, Lucille Sevin and Genevieve Granger each designed vases and figurines with nude females, each with their own style. The Hungarian sculptor Geza Hiecz designed animals and birds for Etling. Georges Beal designed a number of vases with plant designs. We believe that the Sevres glassworks reissued some of the Etling figurines of women in clear frosted glass during the 1970's, but not in opalescent glass.
